Ogunquit is a small, coastal town in southern Maine that gets its name from the Abenaki people, an indigenous group that comes from the Algonquian tribe. The literal translation of Ogunquit, “beautiful place by the sea,” embodies its meaning with its long coastline and its rocky walking path, known as The Marginal Way. Infused with culture from the Quebecians and the LGBTQ community, Ogunquit offers something for everyone in terms of food, exercise, water sports, and family vacations. Once a part of Wells, Ogunquit is its own municipality, and drives tourists to its location for its award-winning seafood, boat tours, and quaint shops in Perkin’s Cove and on Main Street. However, it is the breathtaking views of the ocean that bring patrons to this place, at all times during the day.
